I kept finding these posts about how ashamed American people is about US and I was like, what?
History wise, US is the fourth country that transitioned into republic. The other two (Netherlands and Englands) switch back into Monarchy. The next big thing is France 94 years later. Almost a whole century later.
Do you know how badass it is to keep a republic for so, so, so long? You don't have a single person appointed by God to shift the blame or hope for. You have a string of people. To have so much trust in your fellow countrymen truly defines the words: "we the people".
And we are so, so, so diverse.
US is not a pristine nuclear family all nice and cozy in a small gated townhouse complex with a mom, a dad, and two kids plus maybe one cousin.
US is a huge family in rural area with Mom and dad in the brink of a divorce, 2 old grandparents in the attic, 1 kids from current marriage, 2 from previous marriages, 4 foster kids from across the ocean and 3 other God knows from where but since they are here might as well feed them and try to take care of them.
We didn't do well, but considering the circumstance we did pretty good. We got so much to fix, but it is not in any way a reason to be ashamed of being an American. Why focus on the bad when you can focus on the good?
And I understand it's hard, especially when the news and social media keep blasting how horrible things are, how malicious everyone is. I missed the days when I can be on the road again, giving love and accepting it from random strangers during my commute. That's America. The true soul of America. Not the impostor the click-baiters wants you to believe.
We can't change history. We can't be where we are right now without Columbus, without the Declaration of Independence, without all the things that had happened. Saying it is bad and denounced it, even attempting to erase it, does not change the fact that we are where we are now because of all that happened.
We've achieved victories after victories for human rights, and it will keep getting better. Because we as a nation learn to care for each other. Such progress is achieved because we learn from our mistakes and fixed things up as we go. In the future we will learn that our predecessor band-aid fix is not good, and we will fix it accordingly. And our future generation will do the same with our band-aid fix, and so on.
If you really hate America so much and ashamed to be one, you can always release your citizenship. It is honestly something that we first generation immigrants coveted so much, but we understand. We too have to let go of our homeland citizenship with a great sorrow because we believe US will be better for our future. I think more people should research and find a place, a country that will be better for their future. Yes, you are risking all. Aren't we all?
